In addition to major contracts, Gill Building carries out minor works and small projects. The work is frequently in existing premises and the Gill Building team of experienced men are used to working in environments where life must go on whilst building is under way. We liaise with clients to keep noise, mess and disturbance to a minimum, working out of hours where necessary. Work to old or listed buildings require extra skills and sympathy with old materials and techniques. Our skilled craftsmen understand and respect older buildings and can blend new to old as seamlessly as possible.

The concrete access deck at first floor level had suffered from ‘concrete cancer’ and had become unsafe. The structure had to be demolished and a new deck created from precast concrete units on new brackets and posts. Each unit, 6 meters long and weighing nearly 6 tonnes had to be threaded carefully into the existing structure by crane. The walkway was finished with asphalt waterproofing and new steel railings.
